Chapter: Up In The Air
“Maybe impulse-buying an art gallery wasn’t the best idea.”
(This was finished on Wednesday! Since there’s a bit of buffer now, I’m going to try AGAIN to finish that damn ViR chapter.)
Yay for fidget toys!
Haha, this is 100% inspired by my spouse! Right now they’re within reach of a tungsten sphere, a worn competition-grade Rubik’s cube, a piece of bismuth, some putty, a necklace we bought b/c they wouldn’t stop playing with it, chip clips, and some sort of collapsible cube toy (don’t know how to describe it), among others. And we still have two lego sets to do together.
Legos!
Ahahaha yes character wordvomit montage!
I love the swan vase in the last panel’s foreground.
Maybe…
maybe the swan vase is the stack of plastic cups that he guards like a father
“How does your wife feel about the move?” ::cue laughter for a thousand years::
Gotta be honest, I’m v interested in that voidcritter lore and I was trying to fill in the blanks.
(this is completely not story related but I love seeing the in-game furniture sketched out here. You are insanely talented)
Awww, you’re too kind! Does it take away from them if they’re all traced? Because they’re all traced. Though if I compare these backgrounds to those on the first page, they’re all traced …marginally better. Progress!
I really wanted that transition from Miles to Iliana. “I’m the secretary. Welcome to the gallery!”/”Something’s going on with your marriage, isn’t it?” Glad it landed.
You probably got the first part of what Ari is saying. Then she talks about kids loving her pop-culture outfits, tells Yuan she got her headscarf on sale, and then launches into her theory about how Voidcritters survive in the balls, which I didn’t fully write. The phrase “Bag of Holding” shows up.
NO IT DOES NOT! TRACING THEM IS GENIUS.
(the voidcritters survive in balls because they generate their own eco-system that exists in a space-time pocket that we can’t discern but definitely exists inside the ball…right?)
That’s better than what I have down. I hope it’s a pleasant enough experience that when the kids throw the balls for their cage fights, the critters are like “WHAT, dammit, WHAT?! This again?!”
I’m with Ferosh I tried so hard to decipher that Voidcritter lore so now I wanna be friends with Ari so I can hear him talk all about it. XD
It makes sense—you both love learning, and Ari’s an avid information collector, so why not?
ok so i haven’t dug into this story yet but i just wanted to point out, my god, how impeccable your drawings of hands are
thank you <3
It’s surprising you started with CT, given how Haunted is much more similar to My Roommate, the Vampire (oh my god they were roommates). And I think I owe you an explanation: the reason I haven’t responded is that I’m prioritizing the drawn response to Mr. Peanut Benji, and I’m not as well-practiced as you are & so it’s taking my idiot ass a minute to do it without references… and I’m prioritizing the stuff that has to get done by this weekend, which is in horrible shape. Rrrrgh. But I promise that in the near future, I’ll fix all the glaring anatomical errors and they can have their mini gaysian pride party in tuxes over at your place. (Bernard may dress as a jiangshi.)
sorry, all i read was “mini gaysian pride party”
PERFECT. Right after this, Yuan casually bought a §50k bottle of wine, the supernaturals started a friendly game of darts (the darts are on fire), and a wave of horror washes over Benji’s face as he realizes who the only adult in the room is.
Xiyuan would. He would. And is Benji the really only adult in the room? The man doesn’t even know how to properly hold a wine glass 😅
Oh no… good point. QUICK!!! Someone hire a babysitter.
jk no explanation needed! ah that’s true, the parallels are there (gaysian with a supernatural love interest) And don’t worry, it’s on my to-read list!
Omg Ari just going a mile a minute about Voidcritters and what she heard at comic con or anime con or SOME con’s panel. Okay, so maybe I wouldn’t do that when meeting the boss for the first time, but my god her enthusiasm is just my love.
lmao Yuan looks like me EVERY.DAY.OF.MY.LIFE. I feel you, Yuan.
Every day of your life? Y—yeeeeah. Poor introverted Yuan just had to talk to A LOT of new people who are no doubt whispering about him outside his office.
It fits Ari, doesn’t it? She loves collecting information and spreading it around.
