Chapter: Up In The Air
Folks, he’s back.
He’s back and he’s bumping trashcans.
(also, I’m quitting, this job isn’t worth my mental health)

I love Champei’s elbow patches. Also her sweet spy skills, which include memorizing the positions of office trash cans.
Have I ever mentioned how much I appreciate your dedication to character design? Everyone has not only a completely different silhouette, but uniquely shaped eyes! Super expressive and impressive.
Yuan appears! He was here the whole time!!
Yes, thank you for noticing!! I’m still learning character design, but a pet peeve of mine is when every single stylized Asian character in a work has that same almond eye shape. Shoo with that noise. Seven different named Asian-American characters (so far), seven different eye shapes. And the silhouettes will keep developing as I get a better grasp on form.
I wanted to comment on Champei’s amazing observation skills and notice others have already. That’s amazing! And really like the dustprint effect of the trashcan. Cleaner be like ‘I’m not paid enough to lift and clean underneath every trash can on every floor in 100 office cubicles! Agreee!
You can just feel the ominous vibes radiating from that door in the 3rd last panel.. and hear the music in cinemas going all scratchy and intense… EEk! So much tension! I love it!😆
Sorry to hear about your work. I think you’ve made the best decision for the long run. It sounded so toxic there and not worth undermining your capabilities and self-worth for. If you’re gonna make someone else rich, better be for an employer that values you and contribution.
Yuan better give that cleaner a raise! And yeah, Champei’s high sensitivity and attention to detail make her an invaluable asset for the core spy team.
You’re right about the job… I kept thinking what a huge argument it would be to convince the boss that something he’s never studied is valuable, then realized no one was forcing me to have that fight.
Oh, their faces!
Both condolences and congratulations on the job decision. And good luck with the transitionary time. Have you thought of opening an art gallery? Or a detective agency? Or an art gallery that’s a front for a detective agency?
Aw, but I wouldn’t be able to write and draw as fast if I were stalking random gallerists! The next CT chapter is already late as-is.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR MENTAL HEALTH FIRST! IT IS NEVER WORTH IT! (I think I have more to say, maybe on the discord)
First of all, her oxfords have to match, it’s a rule. Call it the thing standing between us and total annihilation. Vlad approves.
The small detail that blew this entire case wide open is so CT I just cannot. Like, yes, of course it would be trashcan being slightly askew. Also, am I reading too much into this that something like that is exactly what a ghost would do (chants “Bernard Foreshadowing” really loudly)?
Um the expression at the end are absolutely priceless.
(of course Yuan has always been there, its on brand)
I won’t take Vlad’s approval lightly, you hear me? Especially on shoes. That man has opinions.
Read as deeply into it as you like! Oooh, spoopy ghost! I also would have accepted “of course it would be a trashcan, because Xiyuan is trash.” So many layers.
There are two wolves inside of me. One wants to follow Xiyuan’s coworkers (and Althea! ALTHEA!!!) as they wreck everyone’s shit. The other is like, this is a romance, you fool, you need to introduce the love interest. Then there’s the third wolf, who is really concerned about how serial works like this read differently whether you’re binging and checking in every week, and wants to know how soon we’ll be introducing main themes. So the first chapter is really long because of wolves.
